The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Tennessee Chapter named Dr. Wahid Hanna from the University of Tennessee Mediacal Center – Cancer Institute and Christine Bell from BGT Recruiting and Consulting as the 2012 Man and Woman of the Year. The two winners were the top Knoxville fundraisers collectively raising more than $47,000, with Dr. Hanna contributing approximately $38,500 of the total. In Knoxville’s inauguaral campaign year, six local business and community leaders raised more than $80,000 in 10 weeks for blood cancer research and patient services.
During a 10 week fundraising period, candidates were judged on their success in raising money to help the LLS mission, which is to fund research to cure leukemia, lymphoma, non-Hodgkins, and myloma, as well as provide support for patients and their families.
The candidates competed in honor of Alexander Delias, the Boy of the Year and Sarah Smith, the Girl of the Year; local children who are blood cancer survivors and sources of inspiration to others.
